Beautiful Shish-Kebabs

As y’all know, I rarely cook here in Beijing.  Food is cheap, plentiful, and convenient, and so I just amuse myself by taking pictures of food.

Scorpions and Seahorsies!

Delightful scorpions and seahorsies!  Both easily available in kebab form here in Beijing!  Okay, not so easily available, all the Chinese people I know draw the line at eating scorpions and seahorses.  But not at grasshoppers and fish heads, oddly enough… all seems the same to me.

Hope I didn’t kill anyone’s appetite.

How are they typically cooked? Roasted, raw, spiced? Do the scorpions have more of a bite to them than the seahorses?

I’d draw the line well before grasshoppers & fish heads, as long as there’s an option.

    … wow!

They’re cooked, usually. Lightly roasted, without any seasoning. Really, they’re not traditional Chinese cuisine… they’re eaten typically by some of the ethnic minorities in China, mostly famously by the Dai tribe, I think. Apparently, sometimes they’ll even eat scorpions live… you pick them up by the stinger, and chew it to death. And throw away the stinger, I think.

    I don’t know about the sea horses…

BTWs Josh, Yuki’s little sister (typical Japanese 8th grade schoolgirl who obsesses over bishounen) thinks you’re pretty cute. :D

I wish to see Josh walking around with a horde of Japanese schoolgirls screaming and offering him homemade bentos

We might be able to arrange that… get him some nicer clothes, oil him up a little, put about a gallon of product in his hair…maybe some mascara… !

Come to Japan sometime Josh. ;)

That is…um..awesome? XD When Gloria’s dream comes true, it will be a dark, dark day for me,and a hilarious day for you… I would absolutely like to visit Japan, and as long as I have french cuffs I can deal with the mascara, but I draw the line at 3.0 liters of Hair Product.

Oh, have I mentioned my new, secret, identity? I’m a mild-mannered bishounen florist by day, angsty bishounen ninja, with a Mysterious Dark Tragic Past, of the night…

From http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellenw/2131547498/ to http://tinyurl.com/d8pc43 ? Doesn’t seem too drastic. Mostly this military haircut is in the way. How do you feel about a wig, Josh?
